What a lovely campsite. We had a very spacious spot for our camper van close to the entrance to the forest. The sanitary facilities were cleaned several times a day. The surrounding area is great for walking and cycling. I also liked the fact that there is a nice restaurant with a spacious terrace in the village of Gasselte. It's within walking distance of the campsite, which is great if you don't feel like cooking. There is also a restaurant next to the campsite. It looked fine. I didn't go there, so I can't say anything about it. You are also 5 km from Borger, where you will find all the amenities you need for shopping and restaurants.

Despite it being the high season and school holidays, we had a lovely holiday thanks to the peaceful setting. There were (understandably) many young children, so mornings were quite lively. On the other hand, evenings were quiet early on. You can ask for a pitch a little further away from the play equipment if you prefer a calmer spot. The surroundings are also wonderful, with beautiful places (archaeology and geology) within walking and cycling distance. We will definitely return one day.

National Park Drentsche Aa: This beautiful nature reserve offers a vast landscape with forests, heaths and meandering streams. Including the Ballooërveld. It is the perfect place to walk, cycle or just enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.
Stadskanaal and fencolonies: The city itself is known for its canals, which used to serve as waterways for fencolonial shipping. The historic buildings and bridges along the canals are a reminder of this rich maritime past.
Subtropical swimming pool Veendam: A day at the subtropical swimming pool Tropiqua in Veendam is a fun outing for the whole family. Weather or no weather; at Tropiqua it is always pleasant. In the exotic surroundings and a water temperature of 32 ° C you imagine yourself in the tropics. There is plenty to do for young and old! Including slides, saunas and a steam bath. Theater Geert Teis: On the border between Groningen and Drenthe is the Geert Teis theater, a theater in Stadskanaal. The theater from 1967 plays a crucial cultural role in the region.
